We are 500km south of Paris, 75km south east of the regional capital Clermont-Ferrand and 160 km west of Lyon. The nearest major railway station is Clermont-Ferrand and the nearest minor railway station is at Issoire which is about 40 km south of Clermont-Ferrand. The most direct route from London is via Eurostar to Paris, then 2 stops on the Metro to Gare de Lyon and Corail train via Clermont-Ferrand to Issoire. Flights are available with Ryanair to Rodez or Lyon/Grenoble airports or with EasyJet to Lyon. Car hire is available at modest cost and can be booked together with the flight. St-Alyre-d´Arlanc is at altitude 860 metres in picturesque rolling countryside. It is in the centre of the ´Livradois-Forez´ nature park, which is famous for its wild mushrooms that grow in the pine forested hillsides that surround the village. The climate is Southern France modified by the altitude. In the peak tourist season July and August, the temperature high is usually above 25°C. In spring and autumn it normally reaches 17°C.
